In reply to Mr. Lucas' letter (1658/07) of the 19th instant, relative to the proposals of the National Bank of China as to the acceptance of their notes by the
Government and the extension of their note issue,

directed by the Lords Commissioners of His Majesty's
Treasury to state for the information of the Secretary of
State for the Colonies that They concur in his proposal to
reply to the Bank that he regrets to be unable to comply
with their request as regards either point.
